あらすじ・解説

Douglas W. Tallamy's first book, Bringing Nature Home, awakened thousands of individuals to an urgent situation: wildlife populations are in decline because the native plants they depend on are fast disappearing. His solution? Plant more natives. In this new book, Tallamy takes the next step and outlines his vision for a grassroots approach to conservation.

Nature's Best Hope shows how homeowners everywhere can turn their yards into conservation corridors that provide wildlife habitats. Because this approach relies on the initiatives of private individuals, it is immune from the whims of government policy. Even more important, it's practical, effective, and easy - you will walk away with specific suggestions you can incorporate into your own yard.

If you're concerned about doing something good for the environment, Nature's Best Hope is the blueprint you need. By acting now, you can help preserve our precious wildlife - and the planet - for future generations.

A must read for everybody! Not just nature lovers.

This is a great book about how regular citizens can do a huge part in revitalizing our denuded and degraded natural landscapes. Mr. Tallamy shows us quite simply that if given a chance nature will find a way. The narrator does a great job with this reading. After a few sentences into the book I felt like I was listening to the author read his own work. An easy listen.

Good book!

I’m glad I listened to this...not sure I needed to but both this book and “Bringing Nature Home” by the same author; an unfortunate amount of redundant information.

Urban Planning has failed Us

Nature needs us to wake up now. Make room in the suburban lawns feeding deer.

The most important message in the world

Excellent book, solution-oriented approach, totally worth listening and teaching others by example. Stewardship needs to be the new norm.

Such a great resource for homeowners!

I absolutely loved this book. It provides concrete steps homeowners (as well as urban planners) can take to help improve ecosystems around the country. I will be recommending this to anyone looking to dip their toes into the world of landscaping.

Disappointing

This is an interesting discussion of how urban sprawl has hurt the environment. Unfortunately it repeats this point which it makes in the first chapter and never goes on. I was hoping there would be some practical discussion but it was all abstract. Also annoying was that it never once mentioned how factory farms are destroying the environment worldwide.

Required reading for any homeowner.

I was so pleasantly surprised with this book and feel it should be issued to everyone who purchases a home. I read a lot of books about environmental conservation and climate change and found this to be a unique, positive perspective. The recommendations are reasonable and the strategy makes so much sense. What a great opportunity for everyone to become part of the solution! I highly recommend this!

Loved this book

I learned so much reading this book. Anyone who loves nature should read this book for a deeper understanding of how nature works. The plants mentioned are for North America but this does not detract from the book's message or it's enjoyment.
