Mental Health Through Will-Training was originally published in 1950 and provided listeners with an introduction to the Recovery Method, developed by neuropsychiatrist Abraham Low, M.D.
Dr. Low was a pioneer in the field of cognitive behavioral therapy. His self-help techniques have helped millions of people manage symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and anger for more than 85 years. The Method was originally designed to prevent relapses and alleviate chronic conditions in people suffering from mental illness or emotional problems. Today, the Method continues to help even more people deal with symptoms of everyday stress and emotions evoked by commonplace occurrences.
Dr. Low and his patients founded the non-profit organization Recovery International in 1937, which is still active today. His Method is taught by hundreds of peer leaders who operate support groups throughout the United States, as well as in Puerto Rico, Canada, Ireland, and other countries. Support group meetings, led by trained peer facilitators, are available seven days a week through Zoom, telephone, chat, and in-person.
This Fifth Edition has updated some of the language and examples to make the book more relevant to today's listener. For more information about Recovery International's peer support groups or Dr. Low's Method, visit the website of Recovery International, www.RecoveryInternational.org.
