Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Louise Brealey read a love story in letters, played out against the backdrop of the Second World War. 'Can you feel, as you read these words, that I am thinking of you now; aglow, alive, alert at the thought that you are in the same world, and by some strange chance loving me.' A small blue box opened in 2008 revealed a wartime world of love, longing and frustration. Inside were bundles and bundles of letters written neatly on thin blue airmail paper or headed army notepaper.

We all have an ikigai.
It's the Japanese word for ‘a reason to live’ or ‘a reason to jump out of bed in the morning’.
It’s the place where your needs, desires, ambitions and satisfaction meet. A place of balance. Small wonder that finding your ikigai is closely linked to living longer.
Finding your ikigai is easier than you might think. This audiobook will help you work out what your own ikigai really is and equip you to change your life. Do that and you can make every single day of your life joyful and meaningful.

Good advice under a pile of pseudo-scientific...
If you are the type who believes advice "do x because long living people also do it!" Then this book is going to be a good read for you. In the other case, there are quite a few nuggets of good advice but you'll need good patience in order to find it.

Ikigai is finding your purpose and passion in life. living long is obtained through this and living a anxiety free life with strong community. This is something the poor living in inner cities can't obtain, Ikigai sure but the rest no.
After saying this the book turns into a diet book which I did not sign up for and recommending intermittent fasting is highly dangerous.

Gave up after 5 chapters
Having read a number of books now on Audible about Ikigai I was looking forward to this, but I have found I was more drawn in by the beautiful book cover which is far better than any of the content.
This book feels like it has been written to showcase the writers skills at reference other authors work and I got so so bored of the constant referencing of other works. There is no personal interpretation of Ikigai at all and it feels like this a book that uses Ikigai as a way to lure would be readers in by throwing the word Ikigai very loosely every 5 paragraphs or so.
Lacking in any warmth, feeling or purpose this book felt soulless and more like a text book that rambled through differing pieces of work.
Very disappointed at the waste of a credit. At least if I had bought the hardback I would have had a beautiful cover for my desk if nothing else.

Nice overview, somewhat unscientific
I liked the book, but it was not very information dense. It gives a nice overview of all aspects of living a good life. However it did put too much emphasise on personal accounts and correlation rather than causation which made it somewhat scientifically dubious. Good listen though!

Good but a bit of a rehash
I loved the narrator and overall the book was okay. I would recommend reading if you haven't read many books in the personal development area. However, as someone who has read/listened to the few bigger books in the PD area (e.g. Flow, Mindset, etc.), much of the book felt like recaps. It would've been appreciated if the link between those concepts and ikigai was made clearer.

short and sweet
I enjoyed this short story of ideas about life from the Japanese perspective.
I've been to Japan recently for a holiday and I was fascinated by the way they go about their daily lives. obviously some things didn't resonant with me but the concepts covered in this book I could totally relate to.
I would probably have struggled with some of the concepts if I was reading this when I was younger and immature.
however, my daughter said she totally got this because she had been to Japan so was immersed in the culture - she's 19.
the narrator was lovely to listen to as well.
