あらすじ・解説

This program is read by Brian D. McLaren

From the author of A New Kind of Christianity comes a bold proposal: only doubt can save the world and your faith.

"Will help you live fuller and breathe easier.” (Glennon Doyle)

Sixty-five million adults in the U.S. have dropped out of active church attendance and about 2.7 million more are leaving every year. Faith After Doubt is for the millions of people around the world who feel that their faith is falling apart.

Using his own story and the stories of a diverse group of struggling believers, Brian D. McLaren, a former pastor and now an author, speaker, and activist shows how old assumptions are being challenged in nearly every area of human life, not just theology and spirituality. He proposes a four-stage model of faith development in which questions and doubt are not the enemy of faith, but rather a portal to a more mature and fruitful kind of faith.

The four stages - Simplicity, Complexity, Perplexity, and Harmony - offer a path forward that can help sincere and thoughtful people leave behind unnecessary baggage and intensify their commitment to what matters most.

The frank conversation I needed for a long time.

this book provides it good framework for working through doubts which no doubt a sale most of us at one time or another. open, Frank discussion and consideration up doubts rather than insincere recitation of platitudes and standard doctrine is a refreshing way forward.

Worth a listen, you are not alone...

I really like Brian's way of bringing home the challenges to our personal and collective faith. The 4 stages are helpful to some and it gives a framework to the discussion; it is helpful to have a handle on what he is saying. When he connects it with Richard Rohr's "3-box" example, it begins to fall in place better. Being naturally a "process" intuitive and not a "systematic" sensate, gives me a much different way of seeing this unfold and come back upon itself. I really enjoyed the challenges put forward by Brian. A worthy read for those of us frustrated with "the playpen" of spirituality in our churches.

Powerful

As a lifelong Christian I have never doubted the existence of a loving God, yet this book helped me understand the evolution of my own faith and why the beliefs I used to hold no longer fit. I’m a faith formation minister and now feel that I can better understand where others are coming from. Excellent content. I highly recommend to those who are open minded. I plan to listen a second time to better absorb and integrate the ideas McLaren puts forth.

Its what I needed

Great book when you're on the journey of making since of the religious mess you've found yourself in...Jesus, born a Jew, never desired religion, but always respected it. Religion has always been and always will be a man made thing. But to live like the Christ, now that is where life is to be found at its fullest. Love the Lord your God, and secondly, love your neighbor as you love yourself pretty much sum it up. I always love books that are narrated by the author - they come to life! Brian's personal stories make this book so enjoyable because they relate to anyone who has every questioned their faith. Highly recommend this book.

Timley

Another great and thoughtful book by Brian D. McLaren. More people should doubt. As McLaren writes "the only thing lost through doubt is supremacy".
