あらすじ・解説

"Topical, engaging, personable, and above all, reassuring." (Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, author of 12 Rules for Life)

From host of The Rubin Report, the most-watched talk show about free speech and big ideas on YouTube right now, a road map for free thinking in an increasingly censored world.

The left is no longer liberal.

Once on the side of free speech and tolerance, progressives now ban speakers from college campuses, “cancel” people who aren’t up to date on the latest genders, and force religious people to violate their conscience. They have abandoned the battle of ideas and have begun fighting a battle of feelings. This uncomfortable truth has turned moderates and true liberals into the politically homeless class.

Dave Rubin launched his political talk show The Rubin Report in 2015 as a meeting ground for free thinkers who realize that partisan politics is a dead end. He hosts people he both agrees and disagrees with - including those who have been dismissed, deplatformed, and despised - taking on the most controversial issues of our day. As a result, he’s become a voice of reason in a time of madness.

Now, Rubin gives you the tools you need to think for yourself in an age when tribal outrage is the only available alternative. Based on his own story as well as his experiences from the front lines of the free speech wars, this book will empower you to make up your own mind about what you believe on any issue and teach you the fine art of:

  • Checking your facts, not your privilege, when it comes to today’s most pervasive myths, from the wage gap and gun violence to climate change and hate crimes
  • Standing up to the mob against today’s absurd PC culture, when differences of opinion can bring relationships, professional or personal, to a sudden end
  • Defending classical liberal principles, because freedom is impossible without them

The Progressive Woke Machine is waging war against the last free thinkers in the world. Don’t Burn This Book is the definitive account of our current political upheaval and your guide to surviving it.

This old white lady loves her some Dave Rubin.

I like that Dave narrates this. He wrote it so he knew where the inflections really needed to be! The message of the book was fantastic, but the emotion of the book was even better.

Gold for the thinker

If you’re open to ideas, if you’re willing to think for yourself, and if you’re willing to listen to things you might not agree with (and a lot you probably do agree with) this book is absolutely for you. Unchain your mind!!!

Poorly written, wrong on facts, poor content.

I gave it a try and I could not finish it. I have no dog in the fight (I am not leftwing or anything) and I am really interested in ideas. There are much better books addressing problems with cancel culture (e.g Haidt, Nagle, Hoff Sommers) or 'classical-liberal politics'. Unless you are a fan, it is a waste of time.

Well written and enjoyable!

Dave is a very thoughtful speaker and that has carried through into this audiobook reading. He presents the logical justification for his transformation from a preprogrammed voice of the left to a rational supporter of individual rights. He is a great dude and this is a great book!

To Ben Affleck

Right off the bat I'm admitting biase. That being said it took me a couple of days to pull the trigger on this one. I already watch his podcast regularly what else could he say in this that I haven't heard already? Man I'm I glad I did this book really encapsulates the last 5 years for me. It's poignant and even funnier than I anticipated. And believe it or not there are a couple of details I hadn't heard before. Think For Yourself!

Partisan garbage

This audiobook is terrible. There is no attempt by the author to engage in discussing political issues in good faith. This audiobook is equal parts ahistorical tired right wing propaganda you can find on YouTube, and an extended whiny monologue condemning anyone who criticized the author on Twitter. Without hesitation this “free speech absolutist” claims the first amendment is the greatest law ever created shortly after referencing his libel suit against a journalist who called him part of the “far right.” I was hoping to enjoy this and perhaps hear a different perspective but this work is embarrassing.

Excellent read!

Extremely timely and well written. Highly recommend! Dave Rubin is a refreshing break from all the highly partisan and often intellectually dishonest voices blaring across the political/social landscape. You don’t have to agree with every opinion he puts forth to appreciate his analysis.

Rubin loves logical fallacies

thought i'd give a chance since everyone hates him, then realized there are plenty of reasons for that. I had to stop listening when he compared refusing service Nazis to refusing service to gay couples... free thinking doesn't mean be stupid, and everyone knows gay people didn't go around killing straight people also, most progressives I know are straight white men, so saying the left hates them is ridiculous. it's a book full of lies and unreasonable conclusions. my forehead hurts from all the face palms.

Dave Rubin tells Dave Rubin

Enjoyed this greatly. I will be dipping back into a couple of chapters again, and soon. If you're on your own chase for making sense of the media world we live in or just looking for sound observations after having gotten through to the other side, there is something for you inside.

Free Thought at Quite the Cost

The idea that anything in this book could liberate your way of thinking is not only laughable, its quite frankly criminal. The book is filled with nonsense notions of victimhood, clumsily thrown together political reasoning, and reads more of a satire of right-wing thought than a proponent of it. If I didn't know who Rubin was, I'd think it is a well disguised leftist parody of right-wing and libertarianism. Instead, it's just another example of why we shouldn't let YouTube personalities be thought leaders.
