Everybody knows Daisy Jones and the Six.

From the moment Daisy walked barefoot on to the stage at the Whisky, she and the band were a sensation. Their sound defined an era. Their albums were on every turntable. They sold out arenas from coast to coast.

This is the story of their incredible rise: the desire, the rivalry – and the music.

Then, on 12 July 1979, Daisy Jones and the Six split up.

Nobody knew why. Until now....

Art. She had me fooled....

I was so sure this was a real band, I searched the web for ages- trying to find them, their photos, songs. It was only then did I realise this was a mythical group. That is how well written this story was. The characters were alive. Their story, the push and pull of wanting verses needing, of trying to find a place for ones soul in a world of creative chaos... of the many ways true love can manifest....this story sits in your soul.
The narration, poetry, storyline, sub themes, emotions...together they move your spirit like a powerful artwork does. It shifts something in you, maybe the compassion we have in knowing how difficult this human experience can be. And the different ways we must learn to love, to maintain peace.
Just, wow.... :)

Amazing

I decided to listen to this book because everyone is talking, no actually, raving, about this book, and I get it now. It was such an amazing listening experience. I love the way the audible audiobook had the different narrators and where there was a little clip from each of them before going into the details of the part of the story being told. It was brilliant.
The story in itself was somehow inspirational as well. It was raw and real and amazing, but also very sad. It really made me reflect on my life and love and being who you are. This was a wonderful read and I will highly recommend it to any one.
This is the second book by Taylor Jenkins Reid I've read and she is now officially one of my favourite authors.

Broke my heart in the best way

I’m not a music person. I used to be though. At first I thought I’ll skip this book despite the hype because I didn’t really like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (Jenkins Reid’s previous novel).

This however, really truly blew my socks off. I felt I was in my twenties again, following a band and wanting to be in a band. If you think this is about music, you’re right. But it’s so much more than that. It’s about unrequited love, about saving yourself, about soulmates, and so much more. I loved it to my core. I bought a physical copy to keep in my library just so I can relive the feeling I get hanging out with Daisy Jones and The Six.

Choosing to listen to the book REALLY ‘amplified’ the experience. The book is written in oral history form, and it’s the best format for listening via audiobook.

It did not disappoint

it was pretty good, it got me engaged with the storyline and the characters from the beginning, also I really enjoyed all the details about the music and the lyrics.
I never try to guess who the interviewer was, I got very surprised.

In the beginning I wasn't quite sure how I felt about it. But from halfway on I started to really enjoy it and get into it even more!

Just wonderful! The format, the story, the performances. I was totally blown away by the way the whole thing sounded like it was about a real band. Perfect!

😭 Absolutely amazing!

This book felt like one of those celeb documentaries and it follows a band that I wished existed. While The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was a huge hit in 2018, this book has outshone it. I was so immersed with the characters and the story, it felt so real. I am still a bit emotional after that last hour but it definitely surprised me. This book was amazing, I highly recommend it to anyone, especially through an audiobook, I think if I had read the book physically it wouldn't have worked as it did with the audiobook.

Excellent narration, pretty boring plot

I really enjoyed the narration and documentary style delivery. The story of the band and their journey was pretty vanilla. I found Daisy Jones irritatingly whimsical.

Fabulous . A gem of an audiobook

This is a brilliant book really brought to life as an audiobook. Performances are all excellent, the story unique and so refreshing after the hundred clone detective, unthrilling thrillers and Gone Girl books that are everywhere right now.

I love the way this never tried to be a story where all worked out well, it was just an honest account of a band that was believable. I would have loved it to have gone on a bit longer.

This one deserves ALL of the stars!!

Daisy is kind of a Nobody, with being a Somebody dreams, so she makes those dreams a reality, she is exactly the girl who she wants to be and will not change for anyone! #FistBump!

Told in the style of a Interview/Documentary, this is the story of how Daisy Jones, met The Six, how the band became a household name in the 70’s, how they sold out stadiums and the like.

It also tells the story of what happens after the audience goes home, after the lights have gone out, and after the fans have had their share of you.

It is about Sex, Drugs, and Rock N Roll, and it is also about how and what the band thought about each other, and their take on their own story.

Because it is being told by each member of the band, you get 7 or more different takes of the same story, but who’s account is really true?

I ADORED this story, it is so cleverly written and so believable, TJR has such a clever way of spinning her stories, once again I found myself Googling “Are Daisy Jones and the Six a real band?” *Spoiler – They’re not”

*Although they may be in the near future as this book has been grabbed by Reece Witherspoon for her Sunshine Books Read, and it is currently going into production for a TV series, I can’t wait to see the casting!

If you are going to grab ANY book this year, make sure it’s this one, you wont regret it I promise.

Think of this as a kind of Fleetwood Mac story, except you get to know the full story, warts and all.

🎧🎧 – I’m not sure if I can talk about the narration without getting all gushy, from what I have read, TJR cast the audio narrators herself, if this is the case, I bow down to her awesomeness, because it is PERFECTION!!!

Incredible Performance!

For anyone who’s thinking about purchasing Daisy Jones and the Six. I would highly recommend listening to this audiobook instead of reading it yourself. The voice actors give such an interesting twist that you really get to experience how the characters personalities develop overtime.

Not sure how to convey my thoughts on this other to say that it is a must. The narrators are so good that I forgot this was fiction and not some amazing documentary I was listening to. Highly recommend to anyone who is even a little passionate about music. I can feel a major slump to follow but so worth it ❤❤❤

Great narration, boring story

Can’t understand what the hype is about. The performances are fantastic and the only reason I made it halfway through before giving up. The characters were just cardboard cutouts of rock stereotypes, not likeable but not interesting enough to be hateable either. Even though I didn’t finish it, it seemed pretty obvious the direction the plot was taking and I just didn’t care enough to see it through.

A novel as a radio play

The multiple voice actors and the interview format made this an incredible audio experience and I struggle to imagine how a print version could come close to competing. I would recommend this as an audiobook above any other platform.

The story is not crazy, somewhat predictable, especially if you know your rock history (specifically the making of Rumours by Fleetwood Mac) but the point isn't the plot but the people, the interactions and the complexity of human relationships. Jenkins Reid paints a tapestry of passionate humanity and I am better for the experience.

Blown away by the story and the cast... woah!!!

Taylor Jenkins Reid, you b****. You had me. You completely had me. I cried at the end not because of the words, or how it all ended, but because I'd never ever have the chance to see them, meet them, *hear* them. I'm utterly devastated...

Let me just say that, sometimes I don't need to know very much about a book AT ALL in order to pick it up and read it (or listen to it, as the case was with this one). It might be a friend's recommendation. It might be a rave review online. I have a title, an author, and I'm in. It's as simple as that. So going into this book, I had no idea that it *wasn't* a biography. I was born in the 80s, so it's always possible for me to discover new music, movies, books from the decades preceding my birth. And so it was with Daisy Jones & The Six. I thought it was a sleepy little (big) something that had been overlooked in my musical exploration.

In addition to the above, this is also the first audio book that I've listened to featuring a full cast. My oh my what a difference that made! And so, I sat listening session after session, feeling and almost hearing the very songs that were described. I could see every character so clearly in my head. But I desperately wanted to get a more accurate idea of what I was enjoying learning about so very much. So I hit YouTube. And there were multiple videos about this book, but not a single one that included even an audio track of the band. What the hell??? I was heading to bed that night anyway, I'd try again the next day. And I listened to the story some more...

Then the album Aurora started taking shape. As each song was written and extrapolated by Daisy and Billy, as other band members described the emotions conveyed by that voice that mesmerised so very many--Daisy's voice--I couldn't wait anymore. This time I properly sat down again at my computer to find the individual songs themselves.

And that's when I found out that... Daisy Jones & The Six IS A WORK OF FICTION?!?!?!?!

***mind...blown***

What just happened to me? What the hell is going on??? WHY?!?!?!

And then I marvelled at the skillfulness of the author to create a story that felt SO REAL. I was heartbroken that it was all a lie. I felt cheated. I felt betrayed. But I was truly amazed.

Bravo, Taylor Jenkins Reid, bravo. OUTSTANDING.

It’s hard to believe this book is fiction, the way it’s laid out in a documentary style, makes it so realistic. I loved all the characters and the time it was set, brilliant!!

Amazing Audible version

Daisy Jones and The Six - first up I have to say do yourself a favour - listen to the Audible version, it is absolutely AMAZING to listen to this story. With 15 narrators telling the story (yep - I went back to Amazon to look it up and counted once I started listening, as there were so many different voices!), it was mesmerising to listen to - and the narrators all do such a fantastic job with their characters.

The way the author wrote the story made it all the more fascinating to listen to, it really felt like I was listening to a documentary rather than a fictional story. I really enjoyed the way the story was told from the beginning. Alternating between the background story of The Six and their rise to fame, and the background of Daisy Jones, until they meet and then their story merges into the one. The story touches on many things you would expect from a famous rock band from the 70's, with the members trying to deal with their fame, addictions, love, loss, touring, being in each other's faces constantly - I was halfway through the Audible version when I also ordered myself a paperback copy, I just knew it was going to be amazing all the way through to the end, and I needed it for my bookshelf.

Rumours Like

A story of a mid-to-late 70s mega-selling LA soft rock band wrecked by drug and relationship issues, Daisy Jones and the Six is surely modelled on Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac. The novelty of this telling of the band’s formation, recordings, tours and backstage dramas is it is all variously recounted by the major players themselves. And their often competing remembrances are recorded by an author whose identity is revealed only towards the end. It’s a perfect audio book as actors play each of the parts. In some ways, it’s like Almost Famous, the Cameron Crowe movie about a mid-70s US stadium rock band, though in this case it’s told more from the women’s point of view. The main character, Daisy Jones, is a Stevie Nicks clone. There is a woman keyboardist, Karen, whose determination not to have kids leads her to abort the child she was having with the band’s lead guitarist Graham. And then there is the Lyndsey Buckingham character, Billy Dunn, the band’s founder and the artistic collaborator of Daisy. It’s their tortured will they-won’t they relationship that the story revolves around. It’s clearly been written with a movie in mind, but it reads like a collection of rock cliches for the most part, It’s at its best when describing the mindset of the drug and alcohol addicted.
