Jerusha Abbott, who much prefers to be called Judy, has received the offer of a lifetime: an anonymous benefactor has chosen to pay for her college education, in return for monthly letters. Jerusha "Judy" Abbott's life is drastically changed one day when a mysterious and rich benefactor scoops her up from an orphanage - the only home she has ever known - and offers to pay her way through college. Her benefactor has many requests, the two most important being that she uses this opportunity to become a writer, and that she writes him monthly to update him on her studies.

First published in 1912, Daddy-Long-Legs is an epistolary novel that follows orphan Jerusha "Judy" Abbott through her college years through a series of letters written to her anonymous benefactor, whom she nicknames "Daddy-Long-Legs." As Judy learns to navigate the complex world of studies, social life, and romance, her letters convey her growth and address the increasingly complex questions that preoccupy her.

Written in 1920 by the British author Hugh Lofting, the Doctor Dolittle books were a series of children's novels about a man who learns to talk to animals and becomes their champion around the world. It was one of the novels in the series which was adapted into the 1967 film Doctor Dolittle.
