Welcome to the audiobook edition of Chinese Myths and Legends for Young Readers, part of our Chinese Stories for Young Readers series. This bilingual collection is created to help young learners develop their Mandarin Chinese while discovering the richness of Chinese culture.

Inside, you will enjoy ten engaging stories inspired by some of China’s most famous myths and legends, featuring legendary heroes, mythical figures, magical creatures, and cultural icons.

Discover how Pangu created the world, how Nüwa helped humankind, how Hou Yi faced the blazing suns, and how the Monkey King and Nezha became two of China’s most beloved heroes. You will also meet the four legendary guardians: the Azure Dragon, the White Tiger, the Vermilion Bird, and the Black Tortoise.

These stories have been told for generations. Some explore ancient Chinese ideas about the world and its beginnings, some celebrate courage, kindness, and determination, while others are filled with magic, adventure, and imagination.

Each bilingual story begins with key words in Mandarin and English, followed by line-by-line narration, first in Mandarin and then in English. This helps young learners listen carefully to the Chinese while following the meaning in English.

You will also hear a Culture Corner exploring the background and cultural significance of each story, followed by a fun reflective question to help you think about the story and share your own ideas.

For an extra challenge, Mandarin-only versions of all ten stories are grouped after the bilingual chapters, giving you another opportunity to practise your listening skills and see how much you can understand.

We hope these stories bring Mandarin learning to life and take you on an exciting journey into the world of Chinese myths and legends.
