美しい英文の物語の数々！原著者の村上春樹さんはこれら英文訳まで想定して、原文の日本語を書いたのかも！

村上春樹さんの日本語原文が生み出した多彩な物語の数々が、美しい英文に変貌しています。

これらの美しい英文が生み出されてくる結果をも想定して、村上春樹さんは日本語の原文を組み上げていったのかも知れません。

ハナレイベイのクライマックス部分に見られる日本語原文の描写が象徴している気がします。

苦悶した夜を乗り越え、スッキリとした気分で翌朝を迎えた主人公サチの様子を、「サチは、翌朝健康的な１人の中年女性として目覚めた」と描写しています。

一般的な日本語なら「スッキリとした気持ちで目覚めた」とかにするハズです。

フィリップ・ゲイブリエルとジェイ・ルービンという、２人の日本語小説を研究対象とする所謂日本文学の専門家である米国人のネイティブ教授たちが、英語の翻訳を担っています。

しかしながら村上春樹さんは、さすがに日本文学の研究者であったとしても「スッキリとした気持ち」を的確に英語翻訳するほどの日本語リテラシーを持ち合わせていないでは？
と心配されたのかも知れません。

そうした懸念を解消する為に、あえて英語にしやすく、かつ英文表現としてはさほど違和感なく主人公のサチの心情を表す日本語を選んだ。

そうした《真実》なのかも？と想像力を働かせる余地が残されるのも、英訳小説の楽しさ、だと思いました！！

ほんとう美しいと感じられる英文が、確かなナレーションで語られています。
この英文が聴ける形になったことで「村下春樹作品が、おそらく世界でいちばん読まれている形（言葉）で体感できる」のが嬉しいです。

場面描写の細やかさや、登場人物たちの感情表現の独特な感じは、英文にもかなり反映されている印象です。ハナレイベイと７番目の男、バースデイ・ガール、品川猿　とかが私のお気に入りです。
