Practicing Humility And Curiosity (Advent 3)
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths."- from Isaiah 2:3
All of us have a sense of right and wrong, good and bad. These moral sensibilities are a good starting point when discerning our pathways. However, they should be starting points.
We often we assume the things we think and believe are complete and correct without understanding and acknowledging that our perspectives are partial and incomplete.
We too often become defensive and combative when we encounter people who have lived different experiences, have different perspectives, and as a result make different choices from our own.
This passage invites us to come together in humility, understanding that we all have a lot to learn. We invited to be curious. How did folks who see things differently come to believe what they believe and do what they do? What can we learn from them?
God has a lot to teach us, and often teaches us through the people we encounter. Being humble and being curious are vitally important us as we learn to walk in God’s pathways.
