A certain teacher had two disciples. One of them was deeply devoted to his studies, while the other was rather slow and less inclined. One day, the slower disciple asked the teacher why the first disciple was taught with greater attention. The teacher then narrated a moral story and explained that the first disciple had a strong desire to gain knowledge, and therefore he put in sincere effort. As a result, he received rewards proportional to his hard work. The second disciple, however, had a weak desire for learning, so his efforts were minimal, and thus his results were limited. Realizing his own shortcomings, the second disciple felt ashamed and bowed his head in humility.
