December 1992, Lake Andes, South Dakota. A Chevy Monte Carlo skids on black ice and flips into a frozen ditch. Inside, 17-year-old Tracy Dion is trapped upside down, while Ruby Bruguier scrambles out into the darkness. Arnold Archambeau, the driver, is already gone. When rescuers arrive minutes later, Arnold and Ruby have vanished without a trace. Three months later, their bodies reappear in the same ditch, under circumstances so strange that investigators insist they couldn’t have been there all along.
