Arjun saw Chitraangada, beautiful daughter of King Chitravaahak of Manipur. Arjun fell in love with her and wanted to marry her. King Chitravaahak permitted them subject to the condition that their first son will belong to the King, shall stay with him and shall be his heir. Arjun accepted the condition. Arjun lived in Manipur for three years and moved towards south after the birth of his son. While moving south, he reached a place which was infested with dangerous crocodiles who were actually apsaras and had lost their beauty due to a curse. Arjun boldly entered the dangerous waters and pulled the crocodiles out of water. On being pulled out, the crocodiles became apsaras again. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Arjunvanvaas Parv/Chapters 214-216).
