In this episode of The Finding Purpose Podcast, Adam sits down with Idara Otu—Olympian, entrepreneur, author, and advocate—whose journey spans the globe and bridges worlds. Idara represented Nigeria in the 2012 London Olympics as part of the 4x400m relay team, and has since built a career that integrates sports, finance, and empowering young girls.

With over 15 years in top investment banks, Idara transitioned from Wall Street to entrepreneurship with a vision to impact her home country, Nigeria, through her nonprofit, Let Girls Run, Read, Grow. This organization is dedicated to empowering African girls through education, athletics, and entrepreneurship.

As a published author of The Miraculous Masquerade and Running Home, Idara has been able to share her personal story of cultural pride and resilience, and now she’s also launched NŌK CHOC, a vegan hot cocoa brand that gives back by funding the education of young girls in Africa.

In this conversation, Idara shares how her journey—from the track to the boardroom—has been rooted in purpose, and how she integrates identity, intention, and service into everything she does.

🎙️ In this episode, we explore:

  • Idara’s early life in Brooklyn and the competitive spirit instilled in her by her family

  • How athletics shaped her mindset and prepared her for challenges in both sport and business

  • Her transition from Olympic dreams to Wall Street, and how that led to entrepreneurship

  • The creation and mission of Let Girls Run, Read, Grow and how it empowers young girls in Africa

  • The launch of NŌK CHOC and the sustainable business model behind it

  • The importance of cultural pride, resilience, and giving back to the homeland

  • The role of discipline and consistency in achieving goals, no matter the field

This episode is a powerful reminder of how purpose is shaped by both personal success and the impact you have on others. Idara’s story is one of transformation, from athletics to advocacy, and it reflects the true power of pursuing a meaningful life.
