Midnight Currents: The Brooklyn Nightclub Drownings. Investigative reporter Lauren Conlin probes the mysterious, tragic, and coincidental deaths of three young men—all found in Brooklyn’s Newtown Creek, an arm of the East River, within a year, and all after leaving local nightclubs. Two deaths have been ruled drownings, and one, 30-year-old Damani Alexander’s, remains “cause still unknown or undetermined.” His mother, Desiree Nicholson, is dissatisfied with the investigation and demands answers. This podcast will investigate Alexander’s death, examine the shuttered Brooklyn Mirage Nightclub, where two of the men were last seen, and explore the nightlife corruption scandal tied to former NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban.
