In the United States, while recent quakes have been minor, experts continue to warn about the risk of much larger, more damaging events, especially in heavily populated areas with significant fault lines. Public safety officials emphasize community awareness programs and early warning systems as key tools to minimize harm when a major earthquake does strike.
