Nick Pivetta (11-3) won his career-high 11th game in a 7-innings, 1-hit performance, and the San Diego Padres scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 in their weekend series opener at Petco Park.

The 11 wins are a new career-high for Pivetta, who retired the 1st 12 hitters he faced before allowing a solo home run to Wilson Contreras leading off the top of the 5th inning.

Mason Miller worked a scoreless 7th in his 1st Pads’ appearance, giving up 2 hits and striking out 2. Miller was helped out by a beautifully turned 5-4-3 double-play to end the inning.

For the 1st time this season, the Padres have had back-to-back starters go 7 or more innings. Yu Darvish went 7 shutout innings on Sunday in the series finale against the Mets.
