MAY 15 - Heart Check

3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 16:2; Psalm 54; 2 Corinthians 3

________________________________________

“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit.” — Proverbs 16:2

“Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.” — Psalm 54:4

“Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God.” — 2 Corinthians 3:5

We all want to believe we’re doing okay—maybe even great. We like to think our motives are right, our choices are good, and our hearts are in the right place. But Proverbs 16:2 reminds us that just because something seems right to us doesn’t mean it’s actually right in God’s eyes. He sees what’s under the surface—our thoughts, intentions, and the stuff we don’t post online. That can feel intense, but it’s not meant to shame us. It’s meant to free us.

When we feel overwhelmed by the pressure to be enough or do everything perfectly, Psalm 54 brings comfort: God is our helper. He doesn’t leave us to figure things out alone. And in 2 Corinthians 3, Paul reminds us that we don’t have to be “sufficient” on our own—our strength, value, and ability come from God. That’s where real confidence and freedom begin.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Check Your Motives: Why do you do what you do—especially when no one is watching? Ask God to reveal what’s really going on in your heart.

2. Admit the Pressure: Do you ever feel like you’re not enough or like you have to keep proving yourself? Remember, your sufficiency is from God—not your grades, your popularity, or your performance.

3. Let God Be Your Helper: What would change if you actually believed that God was the “upholder of your life”? Would you stress less? Would you pray more?

BOTTOM LINE

God sees your heart, helps you when you feel weak, and reminds you that your worth doesn’t come from your own strength—but from Him.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for seeing my heart, even when I’m confused about what’s going on inside. Help me not to rely on my own understanding or chase approval, but to trust that You are my helper and that You are enough for me. Search my heart and lead me in Your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
