"The latest, superb addition to Hunter's Hawthorne House series will delight fans of sweet, inspirational Regency romances with its compelling characters and flawlessly crafted setting." ( Booklist)

あらすじ・解説

Life for Lady Adelaide Bell was easier if she hid in her older sister's shadow - which worked until her sister got married. Even with the pressure of her socially ambitious mother, the last thing she expected was a marriage of convenience to save her previously spotless reputation.

Lord Trent Hawthorne couldn't be happier that he is not the duke in the family. He's free to manage his small estate and take his time discovering the life he wants to lead, which includes grand plans of wooing and falling in love with the woman of his choice. When he finds himself honor bound to marry a woman he doesn't know, his dream of a marriage like his parents' seems lost forever.

Already starting their marriage on shaky ground, can Adelaide and Trent's relationship survive the pressures of London society?

This one is for reading.

I had to buy the print version. Narration is stilted and brutal to listen to.

Good story line

Cute story and here is my BUT; the narrator read like she was on 'allow play'. Listening to her was very tedious.

Only worth listening to if you have nothing else

Meh. Slow story, awkward relationship, mediocre characters, halting narrator. The premises was a nice idea: how does a couple fall in love if their marriage was arranged or forced? But I was disappointed with the story. Boring compared to the first one in the Hawthorne series. Much more focus on sex and scriptures than the others. Not my favorite.

Great story with horrible narration...

This is an interesting story, but the narrator has a terrible voice. She also tries too hard to imitate male voices. She sounds scratchy and pitchy at best. Ugh! I couldn't even finish listening to this because of the narrator. I hope this author goes back to using Ann Marie Gideon as narrator for her future novels.

A little different

Definitely the most spicy of all of the Hawthorne House books. Nothing inappropriate, but a lot more sexual tension than any other book. this installment is unique as Trent doesn't marry for love as the other siblings do. However, the twist makes it very interesting. Still a Christian romance and highly recommended. I enjoyed it. This narrator did the previous book, and I didn't enjoy her so much in that book. However, this one was a little bit easier for me to get used to. Ultimately she does a good job.

A sweet story ruined by a horrible narrator

The narrator was bad. Her male voices made me not want t listen to the book. I muscled through and the story was sweet. The hero was vulnerable an it endeared me to him but the narrator made me hate hearing his point of view. A good story otherwise

Wrong Narrator

I have listened to stories with this narrator before and I can say she does better with stories that has a lot of satire. The narrator is not the only thing wrong with the story it was just missing something and the plot was not interesting. I stopped when they were having a conversation about the Heroine having a season because I just couldn't continue listening to to blundering characters anymore.

5 star story ... 2.5 star narrator

This book is part of a series. It can be read as a stand-a-lone, but reading the other books first will make this book way more enjoyable. This book is a clean regency romance. The question to be resolved in the book is: Can a marriage between two strangers, solely to rescue a ladies reputation, turn into love?
I thought the emotions Lord Trent went through were totally realistic, even though the timeline for the resolution of his and Abigails feelings were definitely fictionally quick. But that’s why it’s called fiction!
I’ve enjoyed this series and this author. But Charlotte Anne Dore as a narrator is pretty terrible.

Very good story...

But as many other reviews, I must agree that the narrator detracts from the story. But the story is a sweet one.
