批評家のレビュー

"Sounding majestic, theatrical, and ever so slightly sinister, veteran BBC actor Andrew Wincott has just the right voice to introduce the listener to three key selections of one of the greatest works of English literature. In this 17th-century work, Milton masterfully combines classical mythology, epic narrative, and biblical allusions to present Satan as a flawed, demanding humanlike character. No poet had ever done that before. In Book IX, when Adam and Eve are separated in the Garden of Eden and Satan takes advantage of the situation to tempt Eve with the forbidden apple, all of humankind comes tumbling down. Wincott's exceptional command of the poem's pace and flowing free-verse rhythms makes this presentation absolutely understandable and, best of all, wonderfully entertaining."
