Wednesday meets Loki in this hilarious adventure series from debut author Louise Austin. Perfect for listeners of 8 to 12.
Come on a fang-tastic adventure! I'm Alex Abbott. I was a completely ordinary kid until I accidentally got turned into a vampire. I have cool powers, but they’re seriously not worth it, because I have to:
1. Keep the powers secret, even from my best friends (nightmare)
2. Still go to school every day (thanks, Mum and Dad)
3. Never eat chips or ice-cream ever again (the WORST)
Actually, that’s not the worst. Trying to find a cure, I blundered into the supernatural world, broke an ancient pact and extinguished 32 tiny fire sprites (my bad). Now I’m on an epic quest to right those wrongs and make a deal with an ancient Sicilian fire demon to get my life back. What could possibly go wrong . . .?

I loved Alex Abbott! Brilliant, fast-paced (and very, very funny!) (Pamela Butchart)
A fiendishly fun new world of monsters, myth and mayhem. We'll never look at pigeons in the same way again! (Jon Lock and Nich Angell, bestselling creators of Tiny Hercules)
Sharp, funny and full of invention, this is a brilliant twist on the vampire story, with a big heart and a reminder that even eternal life can’t get you out of school (David Solomons, bestselling author of My Brother is a Superhero)
This debut is blood-curdlingly funny, full of energy and fangtastic characters
Sink your teeth into this hilarious tale of fangs, friendship and fantastically awkward undead moments. Monstrously good fun! (Caryl Lewis)
First-time author Louise Austin crams a cast of otherworldly creatures into Alex Abbott is Undead as they set off on a road trip to sourthern Italy to take into a fire demon's powers . . . the undead and the living must join forces however, when Alex's bad bargain with the demaon threatens his sleepy home village . . . A zany tale with a grown-up message: always read the fine print (Kitty Empire)
My top pick for for readers aged nine to 12 is the funny, supernatural deubt from Louise Austin. Alex Abbott is [Un]Dead has all the humour and drama you would expect from an accessible book for this age group, with an added twist (Charlotte Eyre)
Snarky humour and delicious moodiness seep through every page - perfect for this goth-tinged adventure. Louise Austin balances laugh-out-loud comedy with real pathos, and Katie Kear's witty illustrations bring even more of the [un]dead to life. A screamingly good read - once it sinks its fangs into you, you won't be able to put it down. (Iqbal Hussain, bestselling author of The Night I Borrowed Time)
A brilliant book hook for your far from eager readers . . . guaranteed to leave them ghoulishly giggly. Alex Abbott is Undead is the first of this monstrously madcap adventure series which is illustrated throughout by joyful illustrator Katie Kear and delivers a hilarious twist on the traditional vampire tales . . . Austin's inventive, laugh-out-loud and high-octane story is not just a feast of fiendish supernatural fun but also a clever cover for heart-warming messages about the importance of family, friendship and teamwork, and the perfect bait for reluctant readers! (Pam Norfolk)
Whip-smart and hilarious - I devoured this diary of a reluctant vampire! Loki fans, be ready! (Nicola Penfold, author of Where the World Turns Wild)
Genuinely funny middle-grade! (Sue Wallman)
This supernatural story of community and cooperation will keep readers hooked
Stories about blood-sucking vampires are often scary, but this new book proves that vampires can be funny too (Book of the Week)
