Nestled amid California's High Sierra Peaks, two valleys have captured the imaginations of mountaineers and winter-sports enthusiasts since the 1930s. Squaw Valley, discovered by Wayne Poulsen and developed by Poulsen and Alex Cushing, made a name for itself on the world stage as the site of the legendary 1960 Winter Olympics. This 2nd Edition is the result of my research for a great number of years. The 1st Edition was in hardback and was published in 2003. This book is my attempt to preserve a consecutive account of the investigation that I have done into the McFarland family history for many years.

On November 3, 1926, catastrophe struck the Barnes-Hecker mine near the small town of Ishpeming in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
