She felt him invading others as she was forced to know their pleasure, fear and then misery. She knew them all by subtle movements he would make and how he took them. The distinctness of each was excruciating to her. She did not want to be a part of this horrible, terrible event. With each pang of pleasure that would edge through her, she felt a tyranny like no other. She was a prisoner of this loveless man and she was aiding him in his despot adventures.

Sara and Ezra stumbled back to the Manor and barred the doors and the windows. Sara went up the long staircase to her father's old room and grabbed one of the guns from the gun case. She didn't know how to load it and yelled down to Ezra. "Ezra, come up and load this gun for me." Ezra ran up the stairs and into the room where Sara stood. He took the rifle from Sara and looked at it with amazement. "Miss Sara, this ain't like any rifle I ever saw."
