The King & Midnight K-9 Mysteries

Mike “Midnight” Murphy has two goals in life—find his wife’s killers and let his retired bomb dog live out his days in peace. Wounded in war, terminated from Austin P.D., Mike returns home to Mogollon County, Arizona, and lands himself a job…with the local sheriff’s office. He’s back on the inside. He’s back on the hunt.

Chief Deputy Mike Murphy is in trouble. The military is doing its best to press gang him back into uniform. He needs a lawyer, one really well-versed in military law. Meanwhile, somebody is trying to run a newcomer off their land in escalating incidents of violence. When that violence turns to attempted murder, Mogollon County Sheriff's Office mounts a counter-offensive and discovers subversive coercion is in full play.

When a young woman exhibiting signs of psychosis is killed, it seems like a drug-induced frenzy ... until Chief Deputy Mike Murphy looks into her background—she was a vegan, a Buddhist, a mid-level bank manager with a Bachelor's in Business Management, not a drug user. Then, another woman dies after falling into a seizure-induced coma and, hours later, a family of four is admitted to the hospital, all of them showing signs of poisoning, possibly due to contaminated food. And then toxicology reveals the hidden truth: there's a spree killer on the loose in Mogollon County.

Sheriff Hank Powers has vanished. Suspected kidnapped, Chief Deputy Michael J. “Midnight” Murphy must, by law, put out a ‘Blue Alert’, notifying appropriate agencies, including the AZDPS and the FBI, as he assumes temporary control of the Office of the Sheriff of Mogollon County. What Mike knows is that he’s got hours only to find and secure the life of a man he not only admires, but respects, because the people who Mike suspects took Powers aren’t playing games. They’re playing for keeps, and state and federal help are ten full hours away.
