Roger Federer's Golden Age of Tennis

The Four Musketeers: The French Rivals in Roger Federer's Golden Age of Tennis

They never won the trophy. They won everything else.

While Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic defined one of the greatest eras in tennis history, four Frenchmen were writing a different kind of story.

Richard Gasquet's one-handed backhand became one of the most beautiful shots of his generation. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga brought explosive power and unforgettable big-match performances. Gaël Monfils transformed defense and athleticism into pure theater. Gilles Simon out-thought opponents with a remarkable brand of patient, analytical tennis.

Together, they became the four French Musketeers of Federer's golden age.

But their story begins long before Federer—with Suzanne Lenglen, the original Four Musketeers, the birth of Roland Garros, and a French tennis culture that has carried extraordinary expectations for generations.

From Gasquet's "Baby Federer" label and Tsonga's astonishing Wimbledon comeback to Monfils's spectacular battles and Simon's cerebral approach, The Four Musketeers explores the players, personalities, rivalries, and national pressures behind one of tennis's most fascinating generations.

This is not simply a story about titles won. It is a celebration of the players who made an era richer, more unpredictable, more beautiful—and unforgettable.

A fan's love letter to Gasquet, Tsonga, Monfils, Simon, and the French generation that shaped an era.
