Tippy Chan is eleven years old, and she lives in a small town in a very quiet part of New Zealand. Her Uncle Pike and his new boyfriend Devon are looking after her while her mum is on a Christmas cruise. Tippy can’t get enough of her uncle’s old Nancy Drew books. So, when her teacher’s body is found beside Riverstone’s only traffic light, it looks like Tippy’s moment has arrived.

It's four months after Christmas, and Tippy Chan, Uncle Pike and Devon are reunited in Riverstone for the first anniversary of Tippy's father's death. When an early-morning explosion destroys the town hall and kills three people, the town is thrown into chaos. An arrest is made and Riverstone decides the case is closed except for Tippy and the Nancys, who immediately know something is wrong. With rumours spreading, tempers flaring and the threat of another attack hanging over the town, they must work out who to trust, who to ignore, and how to stop a killer before he strikes again.
