After enduring the holocaust that destroyed Fairbanks, Chuck and his family did more than simply endure. They thrived. Together with other survivors, the Nagys are rebuilding their lives in the Alaskan wilderness, creating a better society. But the Russian military is closing in like a pack of wolves, and suddenly, in spite of all their progress, Chuck must make one of the hardest decisions of his life.

When the treaty between the United States and Russia offered the opportunity for Chuck, Madison, and the others to return to Alaska, they seized it, this time leaving modern conveniences behind by choice. Chuck and the community have the same mission they've always had: to live life to the fullest in a new world of their own making. But that means they must confront the Russian invaders yet again as the enemy tries to establish its own settlement, and the Nagys' world turns upside down once more - maybe for the final time.

It's been 10 years since the triumphant return of Chuck, his family, and his fellow settlers to a new, post-nuclear-war Alaska. It's been nine years since the UN recognized Alaska as a new nation under United States protection. Now, a struggling United States has abandoned them again. Good people have died.
