Brenda & Klondyke

If you ask anyone in New Arley when Brenda and Klondyke first became “a thing,” you’ll get fourteen different answers, all confidently delivered, none of them correct.
Some say it started outside the Coop. Some say it started at the bus stop. Some say it started when Brenda dropped her shopping and Klondyke tried to help but accidentally kicked her grapes into the road.

But the truth is simpler.

It started the moment Arley collectively decided: “Those two would make a lovely couple.”

Brenda, of course, had no idea. Klondyke had even less idea. And yet the entire village was already emotionally invested.

Brenda was the Mildred of the story—organised, polished, and permanently two seconds away from tutting. Klondyke was the George—gentle, bewildered, and walking around like a man who’d misplaced both his confidence and control of his dog.

(He does have a dog. This will become important later.)

They were the perfect mismatch. The perfect match. And the perfect entertainment for a village that hadn’t had a proper scandal since Mrs. Cartwright’s inflatable Santa escaped and floated into the canal.

Arley was ready. The universe was ready. Brenda was… almost ready. Klondyke was… absolutely not ready.

But love doesn’t wait for readiness. Especially not in New Arley.
