Brent Parthet just wanted to be left alone. A deadly supercommando in the Southwind War, Brent had retired a hero to a wildlife preserve as far from civilization as possible to enjoy the simple life with his wife and young son. But when one of the Southwind, the massive, genetically-engineered slaves who'd rebelled against their human masters, shows up at Brent's door, asking for help from an old enemy, Brent will find out that the war isn't really over. And he may have been fighting for the wrong side.

The conspiracy isn’t dead. It caused the war that produced Brent Parthet and the other Archangels, killed tens of millions and left a Coalition run by a corporate shadow government. Brent and his friends have been working to expose the truth, to bring down the results of the conspiracy, but what they’ve discovered is that the sinister plan is not yet complete. Only one thing stands between the shadow government and complete control of the Coalition—the civilian Parliament.

Brent Parthet finds himself far too close to his enemies. Trapped in an uneasy alliance with the corporate monopoly and the secret police who control the Coalition, Brent and the other Archangels wonder if their new allies are worse than Conrad Janus and his Insurrection. One wants to prop up a corrupt government while the other wants to throw the galaxy into chaos, no matter how many millions of lives it costs.
