Though his father—a WW2 vet—tries to talk him into staying in college, young Andy Carter wants to follow his dreams. Dreams of serving his country and bringing communism to its knees. He joins the Army and after training finds himself due to ship to Vietnam.

The year is 1969. Private Andy Carter serves in Quang Ngai Province with his brothers in arms. While any one of them would die for each other, a vocal draftee in their squad constantly stirs up trouble. Ramsey, a former anti-war protestor and enemy sympathizer, believes they’re on the wrong side of the war. His stance angers his fellow soldiers and leaves them wary of him. When a routine recon mission uncovers an enemy tunnel, Carter suspects there’s more than meets the eye. This mission will leave Carter questioning the value of a soldier’s life and the madness of war.

It’s been three months since Andy Carter watched Ramsey do the unthinkable - he still has more questions than answers. They meet up with unexpected allies, reunite with German Shepard soldier Alice, and discover Ramsey’s whereabouts. When their unexpected allies pledge support for the squad, Carter finally sees closure on the horizon. But Ramsey might not come willingly. The men will be risking life and limb for one of their own, one who might not deserve their sacrifice.

A former brother-in-arms has done the unforgivable—Carter and the others must do whatever it takes to survive and find justice. A prisoner, transported to a plane for a court-martial in the States, will face an almost certain death penalty. This promise of justice is a small comfort for Carter and his squad. But a fortuitously timed rocket attack sees the prisoner freed, and he slips away into the Vietnamese jungle. Carter, Morrison, Anderson, and Miller are pulling security detail at a firebase in the Truong Son Mountains when they hear the news.

Following their fallen brothers home, Andy Carter and Jim Anderson struggle to carve out a normal life post-combat. Dead-end jobs are the least of the insults they must endure. Instead of the hero’s welcome they’d expected, they’re greeted with contempt or apathy by those waiting back home. Betrayed by those they fought to protect and burdened with the guilt of surviving, the friends make the only choice that feels right—they reenlist.
