After writing the first book about why Lean and Six Sigma practitioners should volunteer their skills to help nonprofits, I wanted to give more tangible and real-life examples of how these tools and techniques can be applied. I've reached out to friends and colleagues who are already volunteering their time, and asked them to write a chapter for this first volume, called Lessons Learned from the Gemba.

Getting It is about finding what one loves most and then prioritizing all the things that matter. It's about managing fear, doubt, and indecision in a way that overrides the impulses to pass up what matters most in favor of what one desires in the moment. Getting It is what often happens too late in life, if it happens at all. Perhaps ignorance is bliss, but failure is not. And after six decades of people-watching, author Pat O'Connor began to notice similar traits among those who seem to have it together. He also noticed common traits among those who do not.
