We have often said that in times of crisis, God sends us miracles of the eucharist, apparitions of our lady, angelic intercessions and saints and other powerful men and women in our church. This account is about one of those powerful men, a true hero in our Church, Charles Cardinal Borromeo, defender of the faith of the 16th century. Saint Ignatius of Loyola discovered a dark cave, virtually unknown because it was so overgrown with brush. There, he would spend hours, sometimes all through the night, praying without interruption, except for the occasional sounds of God's four-legged and winged creatures calling out to one another. To add to their indignation, many of the sons of the nobility of Assisi kept flocking to Francis, joining him in his insanity.
