US Deputy Marshal Earl Crawford had just entered the office after returning from a typically Texan assignment where bullets flew like dirt in a twister. He hadn’t even hung his hat when the boss approached him about an even more dangerous mission, but only if he chose to accept the job. Normally, he wasn’t given the choice, but in this case, even though he could have turned it down, he knew that he had to go.

TJ knew the coal was there. A large deposit. But he had seen something else that intrigued him about the area south of Gillette in Wyoming Territory. He would find it only after he had bought the huge tract from the railroad. And he found much more. Not all of it good.

Eighteen-year-old Garrett Shaw and his father spotted the rustlers and pulled their Winchesters. They kept their muzzles pointed away from the three men who were stealing eight steers from their small ranch to give them a chance to leave peaceably. When they started throwing lead, Garrett and his father began returning fire. Garrett hit one of the rustlers just as his father’s horse went down. Hours later, as the doctor examined his father’s injury, Garrett knew that it was now his responsibility to provide for his crippled father, mother, and sisters.

The upcoming eclipse was anxiously awaited by Clay Jeffries as he prepared a private observatory on the plateau above his father's ranch near Rawlins in Wyoming territory. Then, he received a visitor with an unusual request. The stranger asked the ex-professor if he would tutor his frumpy but brilliant daughter in astronomy. Clay reluctantly agreed, but only if she proved to be an exceptional student. While the young girl surely proved to be both brilliant and frumpy, her arrival also brought with it many potentially deadly consequences that neither she nor her father realized.

Mark Jordan was in no hurry to finish the long ride across Texas to reach his first assignment in Dallas. He was ashamed of himself for not standing up to his father and choosing his own career. But now, he was an ordained minister and wished something would happen to change the course of his life, unaware that the two riders who were approaching him from the west would soon do that and much more.

Mac Jones had been searching for a refuge for seven years and had finally found it in the mountains of Colorado. Then, as soon as his cabin was built, he was presented with two fellow refugees who would turn his peaceful sanctuary into a killing ground.

Bounty hunter Todd Harper arrives in New Mexico, acting as deputy sheriff for his friend Sheriff Reed, who's been shot and severely injured. When a gang attacks and burns the church, Todd begins to uncover a more sinister plot that will destroy the town. As murder and mayhem ensue, Todd is reunited with Emily, the woman he once loved. A woman who left him for dead, while she rode off with the dangerous Ritter gang.

Matt finally had what he wanted; a ranch to raise his Morgans. Now he was ready to take the next step; the reason for building the ranch in the first place. He would finally begin his search for the right woman to help him start a family of his own. He thought that the difficult work in achieving that dream was behind him and now the much more pleasant part lay ahead. That belief was shattered when he received a visitor with a letter from an old friend – a friend who had been hanged north of Denton.

No one had seen the innocuous rock on the long climb to the pass on the Oregon Trail, and when the last covered wagon in the long line rolled onto the lump of granite, it shouldn’t have made much of a difference, but it caused almost instant tragedy. Just seconds later, the wagon plunged over the edge of the narrow trail, then began its deadly, tumbling roll into the abyss, spewing its contents as it fell to its destruction. Her precious children had been trapped inside, and Rebecca could only watch in horror. Her children had been her life, and now she had nothing.

Fletcher Bannock isn't a gunfighter, soldier, or lawman. He's a greenhorn. The rugged nineteen-year-old heads west with calloused hands, big dreams, and very little understanding of what waits beyond the Mississippi. When he hears about Xanadu, Montana—a frontier settlement where decent folks are building something honest and lasting—Fletch spends all his money on a map and vows to lead a ragged band of orphans, old-timers, and outcasts to a better life. To succeed, Fletch must find courage he didn't know he had—and earn the trust of a young woman who learned long ago not to trust anyone.

Ted Shepard had seen many deaths over his ten years as a bounty hunter and then as a United States Deputy Marshal, but none had come close to affecting him as much as this one. He didn't know if he could go on any longer and sunk into an almost suicidal depression. But on his return to his hometown of Wilmore, Kansas, it only took a very short visit by the one person capable of healing his emotional turmoil to restore him to the same person he had been before and to get him back to his job.

Tabby rode out of the Slant 6 after having spent more than four years working on the big spread. He wasn’t mad or even disappointed. It was just the way of life for a cowhand. The last three years of low prices for cattle had finally forced the boss to sell too much of his big herd to keep so many men. It also meant it would be difficult for him to find a new job. Being a cowhand was all Tabby knew, and it was a life that he enjoyed. He had no real responsibilities and unlike most of the other men, he had no ambitions to have his own ranch or even becoming a foreman.

Will thought the job to Robinson, New Mexico was going to be a simple determination of whether it was worthwhile for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad to build a spur to the town. They claimed to have a huge coal deposit, and Will would just have to do a quick evaluation of the viability to extract the coal. Then the simple trip turned into something totally different when he discovered a murder that had been committed by his brother just days before. The same brother who had tried to murder him when he was thirteen and did murder his fiancée when he was twenty-one.

Lee Ryan knew horses. He had his herd and his ranch. He even had his eye on a redheaded lass that would make everything perfect. The only thing that stood in the way of having everything he ever wanted was, of all things, hay. He didn't need it, but someone else did. And it was that need that shook his world.

Conn Sullivan is working alongside Mary, rebuilding the homestead, when the telegram arrives. Junior Sheffield needs help. Conn rides to the logging boomtown of Stump Run, where he finds trouble stacked high as timber. Junior is gone. Some say he ran. Others say he’s dead. A few whisper he’s still here but hiding. Then a logger turns up dead in the river… and Junior becomes the prime suspect. Conn doesn’t buy it.

Rhody Jones, the first mate of the schooner, Vivienne, walked from the docks into the streets of New Orleans. He’d been dismissed by the captain after the ship had barely survived the incredible battering from a powerful hurricane. He could have signed on to another ship returning to New England, but he wanted to try something different. He wanted to make a land voyage across the Southwestern United States to California and then maybe take a ship out of San Francisco.

Lin Chase was aptly named as he’d chosen the profession of bounty hunter. This chase was to apprehend or kill the notorious Whitacre brothers, and he was getting close. They were just a few hours ahead of him now after more than a week and a half of tracking. He was the best at what he did and had never even felt the bite of a bullet and didn’t expect this to be any different. But it wasn’t the Whitacre brothers who would cause the enormous shift in his life. That would come two days later and would start at a peaceful family farm that held more promise than it did danger.

Keith watched his young cousin ride away and shook his head. He would be leading a party into the wilderness which was what they both did for a living. But Angus wasn’t escorting a typical hunting party. He was taking a newlywed couple into the deep forests of Washington Territory because they wanted to find a fabled sasquatch.

Zack's eighteenth birthday was tomorrow, but he wasn’t expecting a party. He needed to get away from the family cattle ranch as fast as he could. There was nothing for him at his home, and he'd prefer facing the unknown to staying. Yet he knew that in leaving, he was taking the easy way out and should stay to protect his stepmother and brothers. He may have rationalized that he could do more if he left, but that voice in the back of his head kept whispering “coward.”

HE CAME TO BUILD. THEY CAME TO DESTROY. Conn thought the killing was behind him. Back at the homestead, he plans to put his head down and work. He needs to help Mary prepare for winter and prove up land of his own. After everything he’s survived, he wants a quiet life. But trouble has a way of finding him. Vengeful kin are gunning for him. Whip Bolan has a score to settle. And a new, dangerous force is pushing into the valley. Conn isn’t looking for another fight. But if one comes to him, he’ll finish it. Conn 3 is another classic John Deacon Western with a touch of romance.
