The summer of 1998 was one of the most exciting that Rosie Harper had ever known. She was dating the lead singer of “The Swallows” so her life was all about wild parties and having fun. When Rosie suddenly vanished suspicion immediately fell on Chris Swallow who then disappeared from the limelight. When DCI Jack West finds out that a dead hoarder has been identified as Chris he uses it as an opportunity to re-open Rosie’s cold case. In the meantime, her sister, Laura, has never given up hope of finding out what happened to her big sister.

The message on the tipline prompts local reporter Ginger Burrows to look deeper into the case. At the same time, DCI Kevin Greggs starts his own review of the police’s original investigation. Dr Ethan Quinn finds himself torn between his responsibility to Arthur as his doctor and his urge to find out if his patient is really guilty of Amy’s murder. They all find themselves drawn into a web of criminality and exploitation, where uncovering the truth might be too much of a risk to take.

When DCI Greggs is called to the scene of a domestic murder, it looks as though the perpetrator is the victim’s husband. Jimmy claims to have no memory of what happened, and with the police increasingly sure that he’s lying, can Ethan prove otherwise? Meanwhile, Kevin finds himself being drawn deeper into Ray’s dark world, where violence solves everything, and he starts to question if he can protect his integrity.
