But Carl isn’t worried about escaping: he’s already plotting out his counterattack. The key is finding a way to earn a new Blessing, a power-up which could tilt the scales back in their favor and grant them a fighting chance to push humanity back.

But they have not avoided entrapment. Ostensibly, Bowdoin is doing work for hire for the hacker corporation Inside Eye. The reality of it is bleaker than this. The chains may be pretty and invisible to the naked eye, but they are still there.
