Additional revelations from the despatch box of Doctor John Watson. These seven stories previously featured in various volumes of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories and other anthologies. They come together in their own collection for the first time. The Adventure of the Disappearing Prisoner The Adventure of the Drewhampton Poisoner The Adventure of the Returning Spirit The Adventure of Miss Anna Truegrace The Adventure of Mr Fairdale Hobbs The Adventure of the Conk-Singleton Forgery The Adventure of the Grand Vizier

Many of the adventures of my friend, Mr Sherlock Holmes the consulting detective, in which I was privileged to assist him, I have recorded elsewhere. There were however, a number of instances when, sometimes for reasons of his own which I could not fathom, he expressly forbade me to forward others for publication.

Sherlock Holmes is furious on learning that Michael Draycott, a murderer who he has worked hard to bring to trial, has been acquitted. He knows that this is due to the efforts of a lawyer notorious for securing the release of criminals who should rightfully hang, and by means of paid 'witnesses' for the defence. Watson hopes a new case will form a welcome distraction, until it appears that both cases are linked. Holmes and Watson are now in a race against time to solve both.
