Mother Goose in Prose is a collection of 22 stories by L. Frank Baum (author of The Wizard of Oz). The stories are based on the Mother Goose nursery rhymes. Mother Goose’s legendary character was that of an older mother and grandmother who spent her days singing songs to her grandchildren and the other children in her town.

When Dorothy and her pet dog, Toto, are swept away from their Kansas home, they find themselves in the magical land of Oz where munchkins live, monkeys fly and Wicked Witches rule. In their quest to return home they meet a cast of characters that have become much loved by families since the story was first published in 1900. Dorothy, played by Lydia West (Years and Years) joins the Tin Woodsman, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion as they follow the yellow brick road to find the Wizard, played by Jim Broadbent (The Iron Lady, Moulin Rouge).

After visiting Louise, Arthur and Toodlums at their ranch in Southern California, Beth and Patsy, together with Uncle John, decide to spend the winter at an hotel in the little village of Hollywood, where they get drawn into the new motion picture industry. I truly love this book, The Marvelous Land of Oz, by Lyman Frank Baum. It brings up so many memories of childhood when I read it for the first time. Through my life, I have heard this book referenced many times due to its popularity and significance. I hope this book continues to impact the lives of others the way it has impacted mine.
