Sitting on the porch with his Great Dane, Mudge, Henry watches a man and a collie walk by. As the collie obeys the man’s commands to sit, lie down, and stay, Henry looks at Mudge and thinks about the things Mudge knows how to do: drool, sleep, and jump up on company.

In this delightful tale by Newbery Award winner Cynthia Rylant, Mr. Putter doesn't share Mrs. Teaberry's enthusiasm for a class on 100 ways to cook beans. And yet - finding it hard to say no to his kind friend - he attends the class with her anyhow, expecting to be bored.

Henry's mother and father are going to a Valentine's Day Sweetheart Dance, and Henry and Mudge are staying with Mrs. Hopper across the street. Henry's never been in Mrs. Hopper's scary, old stone house with its droopy trees and dark windows and gargoyle on the door.

When cousin Annie invites Henry and his big dog, Mudge to a family reunion, they can't wait to go meet lots of new relatives and hear lots of good stories. But are all those relatives on the porch, in the yard, and even in the trees at Annie's house really ready to meet Mudge-and experience sloppy kisses full of dog drool?

MOTOR MOUSE is … On the Road again!...

Mr. Putter and his fine cat, Tabby, are itchy. Not because of fleas, but because it is hot, they’re bored, and they’re out of orangesicles. So when their neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry, suggests a sightseeing cruise, they’re excited about an adventure. The boat makes them feel free! Plus they get orangesicles! But when it’s time to go home, there’s a little problem with Mrs. Teaberry’s good dog, Zeke. In their 14th adventure, Mr. Putter and Tabby spend a lovely morning eating apple jam and raisin crumpets when suddenly Mr. Putter remembers it's his birthday. He decides to celebrate by inviting Mrs. Teaberry over for tea, but Mrs. Teaberry keeps calling to delay her visit. Will she make it before it is tomorrow - and someone else's birthday?

Henry and his big dog, Mudge, like to play outside. But when a thunderstorm begins, Mudge is unhappy. He wants to go inside. He wants to hide from the loud thunder and sharp lightning. Soon the storm is very windy and noisy, and the lights have gone out. As Mudge hides his head in the sofa, Henry and his parents light candles and play cards. Then, armed with a flashlight, Henry goes on a rescue mission.

Mrs. Teaberry announces that she's starting a knitting club, and Mr. Putter is happy to help out. But disaster strikes when Tabby and Zeke want to pitch in, too: Mrs. Fitzwater's sweater completely unravels, and the whole afternoon ends up in quite a tangle.

It's time for a camping trip with Henry's parents! They'll go on hikes and smell good smells. They'll see deer and raccoons and waterfalls and rainbows. Henry's mother will cook camp food and Henry's father will sing sappy old songs, and they'll all lie on their backs and look at the stars (except for Mudge—he'll chew on a log, instead).

Wake up, Mudge! It's Henry's birthday! At first, the floppy dog wants to keep sleeping, but when Henry mentions birthday cake, and ice cream, Mudge's big brown eyes pop open. Join Henry, Mudge, and their friends on a sunny May day filled with balloons, games - and surprises for the little boy and his big dog. This birthday party is every child's dream, especially when it includes crackers from the sky!

This year, Henry and Mudge are out to make the best Mother’s Day lunch ever. It has to be juicy, crunchy, and perfect for family sharing. When they select a gorgeous golden pineapple, the menu is shaping up to be anything but dull. Dad is helping them carve something almost too pretty to eat. So how will Henry ever stop Mudge from devouring the surprise before Mom sees it?

While making breakfast one morning, Henry’s mother tells the family about her craving for some farm-fresh eggs, fresh-picked blueberries, and sweet, fresh corn. So Henry, his parents, and Mudge pile into the car and set out for a farm in the country.
