But bringing together disparate rebel sects will be no easy task and even if he does, the ancient enemy has plans of his own.

The Inquisition has captured one of Hank's people and he knows that time is running out. But mounting a rescue like this will be their most dangerous task yet. To do it, they will need help from an unlikely source: a bounty target. Racing against time, they have to track down this target and convince him to help them take on one of the deadliest forces in the universe. But even if he agrees, there is no guarantee that he won't betray them at the first opportunity.

But Giblet has other ideas. Although Will Johnson and the Sutton siblings didn't gain as big an edge as they had hoped by attacking the Cowlee fleet in the Salchan system, they successfully captured an enemy cruiser and returned with a new ally in their fight against the Cowlees. They also returned with an opportunity—having destroyed most of the enemy battle station in the Shirgan system, the way was open into Cowlee territory, where a blitzkrieg attack might throw the Cowlees off balance and keep them away from Earth for a while longer.

As more and more special operators are resurrected with their mycelia and joining the Undead, the powers that be begin to "borrow" the Marines for missions beyond their stated scope. Particularly galling to Sergeant Paxton Alejo is when they're assigned a mission against supposed human traitors, especially when the reek of politics belies the integrity of the missions.
