Der Erfinder Coolbros bittet Sherlock Holmes um Beistand, da auf ihn schon zwei Mordanschläge verübt wurden. Er vermutet seine wirtschaftsschädliche Erfindung als Ursache der Feindlichkeit. Der Fall scheint Holmes interessant genug, um sich seiner anzunehmen. Dr. Watson ist ihm natürlich wie immer behilflich.

Aufgrund seiner nötigen Zeugenaussage vor dem Unions-Gericht, kann Sherlock Holmes wieder in seiner Heimatstadt als Detektiv tätig sein. Auch die Menschen der Zukunft haben dieselben Probleme wie jene in der Vergangenheit. Mit Hilfe von Dr. Watson gelingt es Holmes in Erfahrung zu bringen, wo ein erfolgreicher Autor steckt.

Noch immer sitzen Sherlock Holmes und Dr. Watson in London wegen der kommenden Gerichtsverhandlung fest. Da wird auf den Staatsanwalt ein Anschlag verübt. Dieser wendet sich an den Meisterdetektiv, um den Attentäter zu entlarven.

Die Vorhersagen einer Hellseherin treffen so beängstigend ein, dass es nicht allen ihren Kunden und deren Angehörigen recht ist. Die Galaktische Union fragt sich, ob das mit rechten Dingen zugeht und beauftragt Sherlock Holmes, dem Treiben nachzugehen.
