A publishing company wants to do a book the entire Cooper clan, starting with Matt. The publisher also has a movie deal lined up after the book is released. Finding the murder weapon, however, proves to be a little more of a challenge for Matt and Dan.

He finds one and they have a wonderful night of coffee and talking. The next morning when he goes to call her, Sergeant Dean Hollister (Dan's son) answers the phone. The woman has been murdered and Matt was the last one to see her alive. He's been framed but he and Clay won't sit still for it. What they find during their investigation is a case of major proportions and a lot of people will die before this story is over...some you'll know and some will be strangers.

Trish Cunningham is the host of the nationally syndicated television show, Homeless Makover, where they select a homeless person at random off the streets and turn them into a cleaned up, shaved, coiffed and smartly dressed gentleman. They have one day to make the transformation. Can it be done with this particular man of the streets? It's a tall order, but they're just about done when, what do we see here? Oh oh.

Matt's story jumps ahead to 1971, where his 21-year-old son, Clay, joins him in the family business. Matt and Clay are off to a rousing start as they are hired by an underworld figure to help him surrender to the authorities, because he's afraid he'll be killed before he gets to say his piece in court. Clay's going to learn the hard way that the job is not as easy as he thought it might be. Murder is never easy.

The bodies are piling up around Los Angeles and Matt's on the case. The victims all seem to have one thing in common - Mother Goose. Each victim has a name similar to the name in the nursery rhymes and they are finding their demise much the same as the Mother Goose characters. Can Matt stay ahead of this killer and try to figure out who his next victim will be? He has to work fast.
