Trials of Poetry Translated by Madalina Day are lyrical episodes presented as an opening dialogue or correspondence on the subject of love. Keywords and white blank pages are symbolic of reflective spaces, inviting to examine and continue an imaginary compositional journey. The conceptual basis of this work is rooted in an assessment of the value of poetry and its potential accessibility as a literary genre. Ways of communicating, rather than communication itself, take center stage.

This groundbreaking Jamaican narrative poem takes on history, faith, sex, and poetry itself. As 24-hour television - belching out the swaggering voices of American hellfire preachers - competes with dancehall, slackness, and ganja for Jamaican minds, Clarice and Thalbot preach their own conflicting visions. Clarice's visions give her power; Thalbot is at the mercy of every wandering spirit. But when Clarice, under the cover of darkness, 'sins' on the beach, Thalbot alone knows of her fall. He sets out to journey to denounce the prophetess and warn the Ninevite city of its coming doom.

Odysseus begins where Homer's Odyssey leaves off and recounts the eponymous Greek hero's final quest to settle his debt with the god Poseidon. He must travel to many cities carrying a wooden oar, find a land that knows no salt, and offer a sacrifice to the god on the site where a stranger asks the purpose of the oar. During his perilous journey, he becomes involved in the intrigues swirling among the great Trojan War veterans and their heirs and must also protect his own family and kingdom.

Spring 1916: Ludwig Wittgenstein is on his way to the Eastern Front. Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico Philosophicus, the terse, gnomic masterpiece of modern philosophy, is also a war poem. Wherever We Are When We Come to the End digs into the form and the language of the Tractatus, following Wittgenstein through the war and his own conflicts with words and silence, violence and grief, time and eternity. The result is a highly original formal experiment and a poetic fantasia on logic, love, and war.

Sing to me of the man, Muse, the man of twists and turns driven time and again off course, once he had plundered the hallowed heights of Troy. So begins Robert Fagles' magnificent translation of the Odyssey, which Jasper Griffin in The New York Times Review of Books hails as "a distinguished achievement." If the Iliad is the world's greatest war epic, then the Odyssey is literature's grandest evocation of everyman's journey though life.
