Aber andererseits schließen sich immer mehr Bauern und Handwerker den Freisassen an, denn sie alle sind der despotischen Herrschaft von Prinz John überdrüssig.

Robin Hood und Will, die "Treuesten der Treuen", nehmen unter der Führung von Kaiser Friedrich I Barbarossa und ihrem König Richard Löwenherz am Kreuzzug gegen das Morgenland teil. Auch Herzog Leopold von Österreich beteiligt sich am Kreuzzug, und als der Kaiser stirbt, bricht unter den Kreuzfahrern eine Fehde aus, da jeder die gefallenen Bastionen als Sieg über die Ungläubigen für sich beanspruchen möchte. Leopold zieht sich schließlich zurück und Robin Hood und seine Gefährten werden von den Muselmanen gefangen genommen.

Immer noch übt Prinz John Gewalt im ganzen Lande aus. Er erpresst die Armen und beutet sie mit immer höheren Steuern aus. Auch den ehemals wohlhabenden Bauern bleibt kaum noch was zu Essen. Die "Treuesten der Treuen", die Gruppe rund um Robin Hood, der bereits überall steckbrieflich gesucht wird, leben im Sherwood Forest. Sie nehmen von den Reichen und Wohlhabenden und geben den Armen, die so zu einem immer größer werdenden Heer stummer Verbündeter werden.
