This story is based on the life of author Yuri Feynberg, who is one of the last surviving children of the Soviet Penal System, known to the world as the Gulag. This extraordinary childhood created an unusual personality and an unbendable character, which made it possible for Yuri to excel in the Soviet Special Forces, survive prosecution, and overcome unfathomable personal tragedies without losing his humanity.

The belief that Thomas Jefferson had an affair and fathered a child (or children) with slave Sally Hemings has become so pervasive in American popular culture that it is not only widely accepted but taught to students as historical fact. But as William G. Hyland Jr. demonstrates, this "fact" is nothing more than the accumulation of salacious rumors and irresponsible scholarship over the years, much of it inspired by political grudges, academic opportunism, and the trend of historical revisionism that seeks to drag the reputation of the Founding Fathers through the mud.

This book looks over the greatest battle of human history, the fight between rationalism and the oppressive regimes society constantly imposes on free thinkers. From ancient Greece through to the early 1900s. The author thought that rationalism had won a victory, but the modern listener will feel a creeping dread as parallels with movements in today's society are revealed.

The institution of American Freemasonry is approaching a fateful time in its history. Far from a carbon copy of what was envisioned at the beginning of the 18th century by those who formally organized the genius system of Freemasonry, particular situations and events make it clear as to why a reckoning is at hand. The Reckoning identifies and explores the reasons found in 10 major turning points that weakened and fundamentally transformed the course of the fraternity in America.

It was a normal day in high school, until one of my instructors began to lecture. That day, he used an inane theory to teach classrooms of students, most of whom were white, to believe that people of African descent were intellectually inferior. I didn’t believe him...Why, I wondered, were lies told about their intellectualism? I realized that these were the culprits and forerunners to intellectual colonialism which still exists in today’s academic environments and subsequent social cultures.

Denying History takes a bold and in-depth look at those who say the Holocaust never happened and explores the motivations behind such claims. While most commentators have dismissed the Holocaust deniers as antisemitic neo-Nazi thugs who do not deserve a response, historians Michael Shermer and Alex Grobman have immersed themselves in the minds and culture of these Holocaust "revisionists." In the process, they show how we can be certain that the Holocaust happened.

Leading historian Lynn Hunt rethinks why history matters in today’s global world and how it should be written. George Orwell wrote that "history is written by the winners." Even if that seems a bit too cut-and-dried, we can say that history is always written from a viewpoint but that viewpoints change, sometimes radically. The history of workers, women, and minorities challenged the once-unquestioned dominance of the tales of great leaders and military victories.

In The Story of America, Harvard historian and New Yorker staff writer Jill Lepore investigates American origin stories - from John Smith's account of the founding of Jamestown in 1607 to Barack Obama's 2009 inaugural address - to show how American democracy is bound up with the history of print. Over the centuries, Americans have read and written their way into a political culture of ink and type. Part civics primer, part cultural history, The Story of America excavates the origins of everything from the paper ballot and the Constitution to the I.O.U. and the dictionary.

Ranging with dazzling expertise through anthropology, history, and literature, Wright reconfigures our self-perception, arguing that the "essence" of America can be traced to the foundations of our history--literally to the collision of worlds that began in 1492, as one civilization subsumed another--and exploring how these currents continue to shape our world.

Transcending Capitalism explains why many influential mid-century American social theorists came to believe it was no longer meaningful to describe modern Western society as "capitalist", but instead preferred alternatives such as "postcapitalist" society, "postindustrial" society, or the "technological" society.

Americans have always put the past to political ends. The Union laid claim to the Revolution - so did the Confederacy. Civil rights leaders said they were the true sons of liberty - so did Southern segregationists. This book tells the story of the centuries-long struggle over the meaning of the nation's founding, including the battle waged by the Tea Party, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, and evangelical Christians to "take back America".

Most of the time, when you sit down with a book of history, you are going to be reading about men. Men who win wars and men who lose wars. Men who create empires, and men who destroy empires. Men who author great works and design great machines that change the course of the world.
