Vibra in questo romanzo una suspense quasi da libro giallo. Il rapporto tra due donne, Sara e Hannane, riunite senza loro volontà da avvenimenti che vengono da lontano. Sara è vittima di un rapimento e Hannane ne diviene la "sorvegliante". Ma si tratta proprio di un rapimento? E qual è il reale ruolo di Hannane nell'evento? L'autrice sembra suggerire che nel DNA della persona esista un richiamo alle sue radici, anche se mai conosciute. È una tesi ardita ma non priva di realismo, nello stesso tempo costruita in maniera credibile e coinvolgente.

Ritratto intenso di una giovane americana che, nella buona società europea (la trama si dipana dalla Svizzera alla stupenda e decadente Roma dei papi), viene giudicata troppo libera (se ne va a passeggio per Roma dopo il tramonto, sola con un giovanotto che non è nemmeno il suo fidanzato...) e quindi imperdonabilmente poco seria, e messa al bando; solo dopo la sua morte improvvisa sapremo, insieme al protagonista narratore, che Daisy era assolutamente innocente, non una civetta o peggio, ma semplicemente una ragazza libera, indipendente, spontanea e disinteressata, amante del passeggiare e vagabondare, oppressa dai lacci delle convenzioni sociali che imprigionavano le donne.

Un romanzo che cattura, una suspense che tiene con il fiato sospeso fino alle righe finali...

Un romanzo non catalogabile in un unico genere, si tratta di una saga familiare, dai toni drammatici, le cui vicende prendono rivolti gialli, quasi d'azione, per poi ritornare più morbido. Violetta al centro del racconto, figlia di un amore travagliato, vittima di una tragedia famigliare che la spingerà lontano dalla sua terra, alla ricerca della sua identità. Il destino la metterà alla prova, in un vero film di azione. Violetta anima inquieta alla ricerca di una parte mancante di se. Ritornerà alla sua terra per curare il male della sua anima.
