Hurricane Katrina made landfall in New Orleans on August 29, 2005, but the decisions that caused the disaster extend across the 20th century. After the city weathered a major hurricane in 1915, its Sewerage and Water Board believed that developers could safely build housing away from the high ground near the Mississippi. And so New Orleans grew in lowlands that relied on significant government subsidies to stay dry.

When a perfect storm of personal, professional, and natural disaster threw Mike Mantel into a dark night of the soul, he embarked on a journey through his own life and around the world to rediscover God's presence through the diverse body of Christ. In Thirsting for Living Water, Mantel invites listeners to join him on this adventure and open their eyes to their own stories of God's faithfulness.

As we cope with the lengthening effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic, considerations of everyday risk have been more pressing and inescapable. In the past, everyone engaged in some degree of risky behaviour, from mundane realities like taking a shower or getting into a car to purposely thrill-seeking activities like rock-climbing or BASE jumping. Many activities that seemed high-risk, such as flying, were claimed basically safe. But risk was, and always has been, a fact of life.

This is the suspenseful, harrowing, funny, touching story by one passenger who contemplated death aboard that ship.

It doesn’t matter what End Times theology you subscribe to since Jesus tells us of a time called “the beginning of sorrows”, which happens before any of it. It is all there in Matthew, chapter 24. Even if you believe in a pre-tribulation rapture, like the majority of the church, you will not escape this time. Even so, few believers ever look beyond that list of disasters as being more than a checklist of things that will usher in the Lord’s return, not even realizing that wars and persecution will happen before we see him.

After the initial shock of the water awakening, humanity comes together to put measures in place to ease adverse climate changes. The oceans are dying and the fresh water resources are being harvested too fast to allow replenishment. Cherry Mortinger, the limnologist behind Hayyin's enigmatic identity, works on creating a universal language for water, while Ilanda Mazandir, the neurosurgeon that successfully healed a comatose patient using crystal implants in the eyes, fights to protect her technology from being misused.

When it all hits the fan, some know how to survive and some don’t. Knowledge and experience are at the root of survival in troubled times. We do not always know when those times come, so it can be useful to explore the possibilities of living off the grid, becoming independent, and living without water from the faucet, electricity, or internet.

In this short but informative audiobook, we will focus on three essentials of survival skills. First, we’ll talk about the best ways to purify water. This alone is something all people need to know. Water can make you sick or heal you and keep you alive. Knowing what you’re doing, is what will help you most. Second, the book focuses on first aid skills. Third, an emphasis is placed on finding water in the desert.

The world as we know it is changing, again. Pandemics are an inescapable reality. The interconnectedness of the world means that a new virus today can become a global outbreak tomorrow. It’s happened before, and it will happen again. And when it does, life as we know it alters considerably. Social distancing is here to stay; it will upend our way of life, in some ways forever.
