Jay Garfield, a leading expert on Buddhist philosophy, offers a brief and radically clear account of an idea that at first might seem frightening but that promises to liberate us and improve our lives, our relationships, and the world. Drawing on Indian and East Asian Buddhism, Daoism, Western philosophy, and cognitive neuroscience, Garfield shows why it is perfectly natural to think you have a self—and why it actually makes no sense at all and is even dangerous. Most importantly, he explains why shedding the illusion that you have a self can make you a better person.

Political and generational divides often dictate how questions such as these are answered, and when asked most people give automatic answers that roughly align with the broader position they believe is right - though many flounder when asked to detail their reasoning. This creates cultural and political tribes, makes people nervous about engaging at all, or leads to the issues to be trivialised or attributed to the excessive sensitivity of 'snowflakes' to 'identity politics'.

In Life Worth Living, Yale's leading theologians Volf, Croasmun and McAnnally-Linz offer a deep dive beneath the levels of habit, strategy and introspection to the bedrock question of what kind of life is truly worth living. Inspired by the leading Yale course of the same, this perspective-shifting book will guide you through life's biggest questions. Drawing on the world's greatest religious and philosophical traditions, this is your path to understanding the true meaning of life.

When The Stone Reader—a landmark collection of 133 essays from the New York Times’ award-winning philosophy column—first published, in 2015, the world urgently needed insight and wisdom, and for many, the book served as a bulwark of reason against the rising tide of post-fact rhetoric. Now, as disinformation continues to run rampant and our rights are increasingly called into question, editors Peter Catapano and Simon Critchley contend that philosophy in the public sphere is more crucial than ever.

An Essay for Ezra is a critique of terror that begins but by no means ends with the presidency of Donald J. Trump. A father addresses his son and a boy shares his observations in a dynamic dialogistic exchange that is a commentary of and for its time, taking the measure of racial terror and of white supremacy both in our moment and as a historical phenomenon.

I wrote this book for you. Yes, YOU. You in particular. Herein you’ll find exactly the words you need to hear. You’ll know them when you hear them. I tried to keep this as brief as possible so you wouldn’t have to search very hard to find the words you need or listen to anything more than what was absolutely necessary. I know you’re a busy person and you don’t have much free time, so I’m trying to make this easy for you. Some of the things I’ve written here are going to seem odd…and others will make complete sense.

Transcendentalism embodies the concept that people have a deeper and more profound understanding of the world around them than simply by what they can glimpse with their senses. In this collection of essays and poems, the works of three transcendentalist authors are shared, each with their own impressions and opinions supporting the movement.

The world is ruled by a handful of super rich. These, in their short-sighted management of the planet, are leading humanity to its own self-destruction. The problem is that the same destructive dynamics, typical of the egoic mind that dominate the universal masters, also dwell in us common mortals, so on a smaller scale we are all co-responsible for the current situation.

What would the world look like after 10 years? Find out.

Critical theorists of economy tend to understand the history of market society as a succession of distinct stages. This vision of history rests on a chronological conception of time, whereby each present slips into the past so that a future might take its place. This book argues that the linear mode of thinking misses something crucial about the dynamics of contemporary capitalism. Rather than each present leaving a set past behind it, the past continually circulates through and shapes the present.

Love is most often associated with happiness, satisfaction, and pleasure. But it has a darker side we ignore at our peril. Love is often an uncomfortable and difficult feeling. The people we love can let us down badly. Since we are inevitably disappointed by love, wouldn't we be better off without it? No, says Carrie Jenkins. Instead, we need a new philosophy of love, one that recognizes that the pain and suffering love causes are a natural, even a good part of what makes love worthwhile. It's time we liberated love.

La licenciada Magdalena Reyes Puig nos presenta la filosofía como algo práctico y concreto, que contribuye a la resolución de problemas.

Hegel for Social Movements by Andy Blunden is an introduction to Hegel intended for those already active in social movements. It introduces Hegel's ideas in a way which will be useful for those fighting for social change, and while some familiarity with philosophy would be an advantage for the listener, the main pre-requisite is a commitment to the practical pursuit of ideal aims. The book covers the whole sweep of Hegel's writing, but focuses particularly on the Logic and Hegel's social theory—the Philosophy of Right.

Autonomy is either relational or it does not exist at all. Absolute individualism is a mental construct abstracted from an irreducibly relational biosphere. Human life finds itself in and is realized by relationships with other beings. This book gazes on the fact that individualism is irredeemably contingent on relationality. Significant as self-consciousness is, consciousness of the other as a fellow self is a higher consciousness. It is the consciousness of the other selves that is the basis of ethics and morality.

In this powerful book, Dr. K. Edwin Bryant confronts difficult conversations to help non-Blacks reinterpret public responses to oppression imposed on and experienced by the Black community. Dr. Bryant offers a real-life characterization of how justice disrupts the organization of power along racial lines and the final analysis needed to pull Black people apart from reliance on the "double consciousness".
