Début du XIVe siècle, dans un comté de France. Héluise, travestie en médecin itinérant, court les chemins sous le nom de Druon de Brévaux, poursuivie par l'Inquisition, Mr de Nogaret, conseiller de Philippe le Bel, l'évêque d'Alençon, Foulques de Sevrin. Son père, Jehan Fauvel, est mort dans les geôles inquisitoires ; Igraine, mage inquiétante, descendante des druides et protectrice des derniers représentants de son peuple, cherche à récupérer les manuscrits découverts par ce dernier grâce à une pierre rouge, élément d'un vitrail d'église.

Un comté de France, en ce début du XIVe siècle, où l'Inquisition fait rage. Un médecin condamné à la Question pour avoir pratiqué des accouchements sans douleur. Une pierre rouge qui a fait couler beaucoup de sang et dont il faut percer le mystère. Des menaces sourdes. Une peur tenace. Et si les ennemis du mire s'en prenaient à Héluise, sa fille, son élève et sa confidente ? Et puis la cabale, et puis l'exil intérieur, et puis la fuite. Héluise contrainte de courir le pays.

Rentrant de captivité en 1918, Aldo Morosini, d'antique noblesse vénitienne, découvre que sa mère a été assassinée ; que dans son palais sur le Grand Canal, un joyau historique, l'Étoile bleue, appartenant à sa famille maternelle a été volé et qu'il n'a plus aucun espoir de retrouver la femme qu'il aime. Cependant, pour éviter à la dépouille de sa mère l'injure de l'autopsie et la curiosité malsaine des journaux, il ne prévient pas la police et décide rechercher lui-même le voleur meurtrier.

Lorsque le prince Aldo Morosini, expert en pierres anciennes, rencontra Simon Aronov, surnommé le boiteux de Varsovie, il ne s'attendait pas à la mission que ce mystérieux personnage lui confierait : retrouver les quatre pierres manquantes du pectoral du Grand Prêtre du Temple de Jérusalem, une plaque en or où s'enchâssaient douze pierres précieuses. Or, une tradition veut qu'Israël ne retrouve sa terre ancestrale que lorsque le pectoral reconstitué pourra y revenir.

Après la mort de son époux, Sylvie de Fontsomme s'était bien juré de ne jamais revoir François de Beaufort et de vivre loin des frasques de la Cour. C'est sur les terres familiales qu'elle élève désormais sa fille Marie et son petit Philippe, dont la naissance doit rester secrète. Mais que ses espoirs étaient vains ! Le jeune roi Louis XIV exige son retour à la Cour où il lui sera impossible de ne pas croiser la route de François qu'elle n'a jamais cessé d'aimer.

1925. Tout semble si déréglé qu'une prédiction qui annonce la fin des temps au solstice d'hiver se fait de plus en plus entendre. Pour Martial de la Boissière, cette fin des temps correspond plutôt au naufrage d'un voilier au large de l'île de Bréhat.

Wir schreiben das Jahr 55 vor Christus. Während die römischen Legionen an allen Fronten siegen, wird die Stadt Rom durch innere Machtkämpfe erschüttert. Crassus, Mitglied des Triumvirats und reichster Mann der Hauptstadt, versucht sich durch Bestechung der Caecilier die Unterstützung seiner ehrgeizigen Pläne zu sichern. Doch Decius Caecilius Metellus lehnt die Bestechung ab. Ein noch erbitterterer Gegner ist der Volkstribun Ateius, der die römischen Plebs gegen den geplanten Partherfeldzug aufwiegelt.

On the shocking discovery of a passenger's body on the Great Western Railway excursion train, Detective Inspector Robert Colbeck and his assistant, Sergeant Victor Leeming, are dispatched to the scene.
