Arriving in California as a young boy in the early 1960s, Edward Van Halen and his brother, Alex, were ripe for the coming musical revolution. The sons of a saxophone-playing Dutch father, the brothers discovered the Beatles, Cream and others. From the moment their hugely influential 1978 debut landed, Van Halen set a high bar for the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, creating an entirely new style of post-'60s' hard rock and becoming the quintessential Californian band of the 1980s.

The singer, guitarist, and songwriter, best known for his work with Wilco, opens up about his past, his songs, the music, and the people that have inspired him. Few bands have inspired as much devotion as the Chicago rock band Wilco, and it's thanks, in large part, to the band's singer...

"La Chambre claire" se présente au départ comme un essai sur la photographie. À ce titre, il est devenu une référence majeure. Mais il s'agit aussi et surtout d'un superbe récit. Au moment où Roland Barthes découvre le lien essentiel entre la photographie et l'épreuve intime qui l’obsède- la mort de sa mère -, il parvient à nous emporter dans un cheminement à la recherche du temps perdu et de l'être aimé.

The central experience of the Ramones and their music is of being an outsider, an outcast, a person who’s somehow defective, and the revolt against shame and self-loathing. The fans, argues Donna Gaines, got it right away, from their own experience of alienation at home, at school, on the streets, and from themselves. This sense of estrangement and marginality permeates everything the Ramones still offer us as artists, and as people. Why the Ramones Matter compellingly makes the case that the Ramones gave us everything.

Almost from the moment it was first set to paper, the music of Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) - technically superb, rich in quality, and widely imitated - has exemplified the Classical style, creating not only the Classical-era symphony but setting the standard, through his own 68 string quartets, against which that form has ever after been judged. And yet Haydn, despite the influence left by more than 1000 works, seems to no longer get his due, Now, in a series of eight vivid lectures, you can learn to understand and appreciate the music of one of the most original and influential composers of all time.
