Sawar aur doosray Afsanay is the first collection of short stories by Shamsur Rahman Faruqui. The theme of this collection of stories is the Indian culture of that time, narrated through 18th-century Delhi. The 18th century has probably been the most controversial in India's history of the last thousand years. According to the historiography that makes up the consciousness of modern India, it was an age of decadence and arrogance. In contrast, Shamsur Rahman Faruqi depicts in detail that Indian society was presenting the most developed view of a mixed Hindu-Muslim tradition.

Maqbool Jehangir ( Ameer Hamza collection) and Akhter Rizvi ( Umro Ayyar collection) have shortened the length and translated them into everyday contemporary Urdu. The stories are gripping, full of suspense, horror, black magic, fantasy, and action.

It is noted in the anthology of Ismat stories that Ismat Chughtai wrote two versions of the same story, Kallu. After writing the first version, she presented it to a peer for a review. Both she and her peer forgot about this exchange. Perhaps she was preoccupied with the characters and plot, as she proceeded to write the Kallu narrative yet again.
